M-SELEN Powers Solomon Islands’ First-Ever Parametric Insurance Payouts

Honiara, Solomon Islands - M-SELEN is proud to have powered the digital disbursement of Solomon Islands’ first-ever parametric insurance payouts, ensuring funds reached beneficiaries quickly, securely and efficiently.

Following the official announcement by the Central Bank of Solomon Islands (CBSI) in February 2026, TrigaCash payouts were successfully delivered through the M-SELEN mobile money platform due to a heavy rainfall spell in January 2026. Beneficiaries received funds directly into their M-SELEN wallets within two weeks, eliminating delays, paperwork and long queues.

Fast and Accessible Nationwide

Through M-SELEN:

  • Funds were credited instantly to recipients’ M-SELEN wallets
  • SMS notifications confirmed successful payments
  • Cash-out was available through agents nationwide
  • Funds could also be used digitally to pay for goods and services.

This digital approach reduced logistical costs and strengthened transparency, while ensuring timely support for affected communities.

Strengthening Climate and Financial Resilience

TrigaCash is designed to provide rapid payouts once predefined climate triggers are met. The successful digital delivery demonstrates how mobile money can strengthen disaster response by bridging the last mile, especially in geographically dispersed communities.

This initiative is supported by the United Nations Capital Development Fund (UNCDF) through the Pacific Insurance and Climate Adaptation Programme (PICAP), funded by the Governments of Australia, New Zealand, and the United Kingdom. The programme is implemented in partnership with the Solomon Islands National Provident Fund (SINPF)’s youSave scheme and Trans Pacific Assurance Limited. M-SELEN serves as the secure digital payment platform enabling nationwide payout delivery.
