19th June 2025

A milestone sponsorship agreement was signed on Wednesday, 12 June 2025, between the Ministry of Home Affairs, the Ministry of Education and Human Resources Development (MEHRD), and Our Telekom, becoming a major sponsor of the Solomon Islands Secondary School Games 2025, alongside the Solomon Islands Government.

The sponsorship agreement was signed by Mr. Walter Diamana, Chair of the Solomon Islands Secondary School Games (SISG) Committee, Mrs. Christina Lasaqa, Our Telekom Chief Executive Officer, and Dr. Franco Rodie, MEHRD Permanent Secretary, with committee members as witnesses.

Speaking at the signing ceremony, SISSG Chair Mr. Diamana acknowledged Our Telekom for recognizing the importance of sports in building a better future for our children.

“We believe your support will invest in our young children to excel through education and sport,” he said.

He further emphasizes that sports through education must be institutionalized and industrialized to enable high performance and career paths for our sports men and women.

He stated that the signing of the agreement also offers an opportunity for a long-term partnership.

Our Telekom Chief Executive Officer, Mrs. Christina Lasaqa, expressed that the signing of the agreement is not just signing a paper but the beginning of a journey for a long-term partnership.

She said Our Telekom is proud to support the School Games that will shape our future leaders to excel in their learning through sport and education.

“This is probably the beginning of a partnership in collaboration with the Ministry of Home Affairs and the Ministry of Education and Human Resources Development to have a more structured game.

She said the partnership goes along with Our Telekom's vision to support more structured games like the Pacific Games or having a Pacific School Games.

Permanent Secretary Dr. Rodie describes the sponsorship as a redirection for the development of sport.

“If we are to look for more gold medals in the future, we have to invest in sport for our young children,” he said.

Dr. Rodie also recommends rebranding the Solomon Islands Secondary School Games to Telekom School Games in a long-term partnership.

The SISSG 2025 will be hosted in Honiara from 29th June to 4th July 2025, attracting more than 3000 students to showcase their talents in the spirit of unity and sportsmanship.

The theme for this year's game is “Education, Health through Sport.”
