Solomon Telekom Company Limited (Our Telekom) is a joint venture company between Solomon Islands National Provident Fund, (SINPF) which holds 97.32% of the shares, and the Investment Corporation of the Solomon Islands (ICSI) which owns 2.68% of the shares.

Our Telekom has over the years of operation been positively engaged in the development of telecommunication services in the Solomon Islands. With its services covering various Areas. Our Telekom has telecommunication services and office presence in all Pro- vinces and is continuing its rural GSM expansion in 2013 onwards.

Our Telekom continues to be the leader in community sponsorship and support. Assistance of various forms has reached all sectors including those of Sport, Music, Health, Education, Churches and Communities throughout the Solomon Islands.

Telekom signed agreement with SES World Skies

Solomon Telekom had signed an agreement for satellite capacity to extend its broadband services across the Solomon Islands. As part of the multiyear, multi-million-dollar deal, SES WORLD SKIES will provide half a transponder aboard its NSS-9 satellite to enable Solomon Telekom to significantly increase Internet and wireless access throughout the Melanesian country of approximately 520,000 people.  Expanded Internet service, set to start on January 1, 2010, will be deployed over the spacecraft’s West Hemi beam carrying access speeds up to 30 Mbps between Australia and the Solomon Islands capital city of Honiara. As the innovative telco expands wireless services throughout the Solomon Islands, it will have the capacity to do so by initiating satellite IP backhaul over NSS-9.  “Strong demand for broadband and wireless is growing across the Solomon Islands. “SES WORLD SKIES, with its deep expertise, premium service and reliable satellites, is enabling us to spur economic growth by delivering the latest communications capabilities to businesses and people across our developing island nation.”

Solomon Telekom signed network replacement project

Solomon Telekom signed a major contract with Huawei Technologies (Australia) to replace its existing fixed line and mobile switching and network equipment with world class advanced platforms. The contract, for hardware, software and implementation services, will enable Solomon Telekom to fully replace its fixed line and mobile network with the latest technology, together with the ability to offer its customers 3G mobile, and bundled commercial packages.  Solomon Telekom is committed to supporting the development of communication services both in the rural areas with our UBC (Unity Bilong Community) rollout as well as advanced business services to meet the needs of our expanding urban populations. Roaming with Fiji

Our Telekom has informed its customers and clients that it recently opened roaming with Vodafone Fiji which means our customers can make and receive calls in Fiji when travelling. More importantly all our mobile customers in Solomon Islands can now send and receive SMS to and from Vodafone Fiji customers so they can keep in touch with friends in Fiji when they return home from studies.

New 3G network Equipments Arrive

In November Our Telekom held a business presentation for its corporate customers at Mendana Hotel and held various media conferences to communicate the steps the business was taking in delivering a new next generation mobile network.  In mid December equipment of the new network arrived from Brisbane to Honiara. The new 3G mobile network has improved the congestion experienced in the past. Business customers will also benefit with this new converged network with the ability to offer bundled services such as fixed line services, mobile connectivity and internet access all from a single local provider.

Our Telekom introduces online Metop Up

Our Telekom introduces a web-based service that lets users top up Our Telekom phones using a credit card. Users can top up their own phones, or those of their friends and family. This international online recharge allows MeTopUp from friends and families from anywhere in the world as well from the Solomon Islands.

As of January 2010 customers can now send MeTopUp using www.etopuponline.com , or www.telekom.com.sb(ourtelekom.com.sb) for any amount, by entering the number of the Our Telekom mobile phone to be credited. International Roaming with CSL Limited – Hong Kong

Our Telekom as of 24th February 2010 has launched international roaming with CSL limited of Hong Kong. CSL is a mobile operator in Hong Kong. In November last year Our Telekom launched international roaming with Vodafone Fiji and Vodafone Netherlands. This means we now have these following Operators on live roaming with Our Telekom. Telstra Australia, Optus Australia, AT&T USA, Be Mobile PNG, Vodafone Fiji, Vodafone Netherlands, CSL Limited Hong Kong.  Currently, the service is only for voice roaming and the new network will allow international roaming with data as well when new agreements are signed with each carrier. Roaming is available for postpaid customers only. Customers who wish to travel out of the country and wish to be contacted on their Solomon Island number at all times are asked to call in at the sales office and talk to the sales officers. They will be willing to help.

Our Telekom host PITA

Our Telekom has hosted the Pacific Islands Telecommunication Association (PITA) 14th AGM annual conference in Honiara, Solomon Islands. In conjunction with the PITA AGM, the Asia Pacific Telecommunity (APT) also hold its Telecommuncations and ICT Policy and Regulation forum for the Pacific, all happen at Kitano Mendana Hotel. PITA AGM cover work plan and budget adoptions for 2010-2011. Apart from the AGM there have been presentations by various people on a number of telecommunication initiatives such as International & Regional Partner Reports Status of major policies, decisions and programs relevant for Pacific Island economies including special projects and initiatives International and Regional Partner Reports Status of major policies, decisions and programs relevant for Pacific Island economies. The meeting also highlight critical issues such as infrastructures, connectivity and access, mobile and packets, bridging the gaps and practical sessions. PITA is a non-profit organisation formed to represent the interests of small island nations in the pacific region in the field of telecommunications. The objective of the association is to improve, promote, enhance, facilitate and provide telecommunications services within member and associate      member countries. PITA members are telecommunication    entities in Melanesia, Micronesia, Polynesia, Australia and New Zealand. Associate Members are suppliers of telecommunication equipment and services. Partner agencies are regional and international organisations with vested interest in telecommunications and its development. Telecom Regulatory body from government has also a special membership category.

Our Telekom bringing 2010 world cup alive

Our Telekom has made it possible viewing the South Africa 2010 World Cup LIVE here in Solomon Islands.

Apart from Honiara viewers, this year Our Telekom plans to extend this once every four year chance to be part of the LIVE games to Auki and Gizo viewers.

Our Telekom signed 5.3 million with Solomon Islands Football Federation

Our Telekom has signed a 5.3 million deal with Solomon Islands Football Federation to support foot ball in the country. SIFF president Martin Alufurai said SIFF as an organisation with a primary aim of growing soccer in the country is very pleased with the sponsorship deal. Alufurai said Our Telekom assistance for the country has started few years back and so far it has been tremendous and the country enjoys the game as part of our life. The sponsorship deal of 5.3 million will go towards SIFF organise competitions.
